Web Links
Here are some other web links useful to us scale modellers. You may already know about them, but if not, here they are:
Particular scale modelling focus
http://sepecat.info/b/ An excellent site if you are into the SEPECAT Jaguar like me - take a look!
http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/ Very useful site for images of specific aircraft types - often by serial number. So this is great if you're looking to build a scale model of a specific aircraft.
http://www.britmodeller.com/ An excellent new site with just about everything you could need. It's going to be BIG, so check it out now!
http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/ Been around some time this one and mostly comes up trumps when you want to access good reference material. There are good scale modelling sections too where you can post your projects and so on.
http://www.hyperscale.com/ Pretty good for sure, but the aircraft forum can get a bit picky at times...but it's very popular and so you should go there and check it out. Some of the builds and reviews are really worthwhile and certainly give us insights into all the new stuff out there.
http://ipmsuk.proboards20.com/index.cgi The site for IPMS UK and plenty of interest here. Forums, news of shows and all the club and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) contacts. Not to mention the Holy grail for scale modellers - the IPMS UK Nationals at Telford. A must-visit really!
http://www.harrowmodellingsociety.co.uk/ This is a good site, especially the 'models in progress' section as well as the gallery of members' models. Well worth keeping a regular look out here...
www.amarc.dk Growing site that's got some really interesting images, reviews and so on. Well worth visiting and adding to your 'Favourites'!
Good reference sites
http://www.eurofighter.com/MediaLibrary/ This is an awesome site and superb if you are building the Eurofighter Typhoon (as I am at present). Some of the aerial photography is stunning.
http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/contents.html An excellent site for British jet jocks (and one or two other great British productions like the Gannet. Great for Lightnings, Phantoms and a lot more. There are also several links to other great sites where good reference data can be found for British aircraft types like the EE Canberra, BAe Tornado and others - again, mainly post WWII.
http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/ As mentioned above - a very good site for research and reference. Aircraft of many eras are covered, perhaps with special focus on moders US types - not surprising really considering the originas of the site.
http://www.thundercity.com/news.htm Well what can I say? Superb for anyone who loves the EE Lightning and Hawker Hunter. Just look at the 4-ship image from last year's airshow in South Africa!
http://www.airliners.net/ Stunning site where you can access thousands of images covering all manner of aircraft from military to civil types. Highly recommended.
Scale modelling suppliers
http://www.hannants.co.uk/ Certainly the mail mail-order supplier in the UK,if not the rest of the world. You can very often get a chance to look at the multitude of products on line before you buy and this is a real bonus.
http://www.eaglemodels.co.uk/ Good site for kits and modelling supplies. Some good scale modelling demos too, like applying decals in step-by-step stages - very helpful. Check it out!
http://www.hlj.com/ A good source for new products, often at considerably cheaper prices than from suppliers in the Uk. Be careful though, because by the time you add on appropriate import taxes, that cheap kit can often get a lot more expensive - so always check out the full costs first.
