IPMS S.L.A.M.(South Lincolnshire Association of Modellers) Covers: Cranwell, Coningsby, Sleaford, Metheringham, Digby, Billinghay and Ruskington areas in South Lincolnshire
We've just heard back from Rob Monfea the IPMS UK Branch Liaison Officer and what good news!
We are now IPMS S.L.A.M. AND have managed to secure a small display space at this year's Scale Model World at Telford International Centre over the weekend of 15-16 November 2008. Fantastic! Both Rob and Richard have been extremely supportive and this is just what IPMS should be all about - trying to work positively together to make things happen and not put up barriers and obstacles.
Do drop by and say hello over the weekend, we'll have a good display on show with lots of variety in scale modelling representing the interests of IPMS S.L.A.M.
November Club Meeting
A really good night tonight. Lots of final preparations for scale Modelworld at Telford on weekend 15-16 November.
Dates secured for 2009 - the first Tuesday in every month at our usual venue.
December meeting next month (2nd) will be a social get together at the Finchatton Arms in Ewerby just down from the Reading Rooms where we meet. Let's aim to be there at 7.15 for 7.30pm. We can get a nice pub meal and have a good chat and get together.
Here's Gareth Jordan receiving his prize of 'Best Improved Modeller' for the Oct-Dec quarter. I wanted to award this prize in recognition of Gareth's excellent efforts on his RAF Sea King helicopter in 1:48 scale. Nice work Gareth. I wonder who'll be next?...
That's Gareth on the right...
October Club Meet
Good meeting with hopes for our application to IPMS for club status and space at Telford...
Demo from yours truly on weathering using pastels...
Brampton Model Show September 2008
Our first outing and what a great turnout!
A really excellent show and lots of models from the guys - well done everyone, a great effort! Here are some great pics from Ashley Keates - a mighty fine 1:72 scale modeller too
Yes Brian....you did ALL these!
Really nice modelling skill from Gareth with his conversion of the Hasegawa 1:48 scale kit
Some of you may remember Les Venus's excellent Trumpeter F-100D in 1:32 scale- very nice work Les and rightly he picked up awards at this year's Milton Keynes show with his model.
Great work from Dave Coward here with that awesome burnt paintwork / fabric effect.
Here's Les demonstrating with an Iwata airbrush...
5 August 2008
Plenty of interest tonight...Tom and my own F.Mk.6 English Electric Lightnings looked good in QRA pose...plus several new kits on show and discussions about who's bringing what to our first model show outing as a club - Brampton in September.
2 July 2008 - Club Meeting Report
A good meeting tonight, with about 10 of us there. This was our third club meet and we are definitely going from strength to strength.
Tonight featured an excellent airbrush demo from Les Venus, focusing on the application of Alclad II 'silver' finished and spraying with acrylics. Big lessons for many of us, including keeping the paint very well thinned for acrylic spraying just one of the tips on offer.
Here's Adam B having a go following Les's really helpful demo...
Future meetings will include:
- weathering using oils
- weathering using pastels
- detailing aircraft cockpits
plus lots more...
Here are some of the pics from tonight - more to follow when I've had some sleep and done some work! Some lovely work on show tonight.
And here are some of the guy's scale models - some very nice pieces here!
Dave Coward first off:
And here's Dave's Fisher Models 1:32 Sea Fury:
Here's Adam B's lovely Tamiya P-47DE 'Razor back':
And Tom Potter's lovely Classic Airframes' Gloster Meteor F.Mk.8
The following nights have been confirmed from 19:15-21:30 with Ewerby Village Hall...its actually called the Reading Rooms:
2 Sep
7 Oct
4 Nov
2 Dec
Location
The village of Ewerby is situated near (and NE of) Sleaford, just off the A17. As you come into Ewerby from the A153 end, there's a hard right turn into the village itslef. The Reading rooms are about 50 yards up on the right - you can't miss it. If you come in from the Sleaford end and A17, then look for the Reading Rooms on your left, about 50 yards past the Finchatton Arms pub/hotel on your left.
Les (who knows much about such matters!)has discovered the Finchatton Arms, barely 50 yards away! Aweful, isn't it!!?? Where we often get a quick beer in after we finish...
What to bring...
One or two scale models? - favourites or newly completed projects. We usually put these out on the tables when we get there and get an idea of what each of us has been doing - or if you're new, what you do?
Something in progress - maybe something you've stopped building for one reason or another and we can all pitch in and see if we can provide some helpful advice?
We really want your ideas - for the type of club you want to get involved in creating - it is still early days and we have a great opportunity here to be different and really push the boundaries out with our scale modelling - trying new techniques and aiming to get better and better, whatever our current level of finish.
Also...what ideas do you have for themes at the monthly club meetings?
Also... what ideas do you have for technique demos that you could try and demonstrate at a club meet? Also what you might like to see others do?
Subs
You need £5 - At this stage it needs to be enough to cover the hall hire, tea/coffee/biscuits and maybe a small extra amount towards some of the other costs we will need to incur in the coming months like: baize for display space at model shows and so on.
If you are a member of IPMS (the UK International Plastic Modellers Society), please bring your valid IPMS membership card / number and sho this to Geoff at your first meeting. Let's be clear, we have had 3 meeting now and everyone has agreed that we should try and become an IPMS branch. This was discussed at the first couple of meets amongst lots of other things and it was agreed that membership of IPMS would be good for us in many ways. Just some of these are:
- entry as a branch to Scale Modelworld, Telford (the Nats)show in
November
- access to oter scale modellers through the IPMS network on line and
in person at the Nats
- access to IPMS info early when it's given out
- an IPMS magazine
Do you have any ideas for a permanent name for our society? - at present we've come up with: South Lincolnshire Scale Modelling Society (SLSMS) - but it's a bit of a mouthful, so if you have any alternatives that encompass what we do, then let's hear them...
Any questions/ Then just e-mail me at geoff.coughlin@btinternet.com
We will look forward to welcoming you to SLSMS, so why not give us a try? First Tuesday monthly at 7.15pm, The Reading Rooms, Ewerby village hall.
Best wishes,
Geoff
